Every dog deserves someone who won’t give up.

For more than 25 years, Dr. Lisa L. Bechtel has opened her home and heart to dogs that needed a second chance. Today, that lifetime of compassion has become N.A.S.H.

No Animal Shall Hurt — Ever.

Before there was a nonprofit, there was simply a woman who couldn’t turn away a dog in need.

N.A.S.H. was not born from a business plan. It was born from years of quiet rescue — one dog at a time, one safe place at a time, one second chance at a time.

Our founders have spent more than two decades helping abandoned, neglected, surrendered, and overlooked dogs find safety, healing, and love.

The mission hasn’t changed in twenty-five years. We’ve simply given it a name.

The first rescue. The heart behind the promise.

This little yellow Labrador had no idea she would change the course of so many lives.
When Dr. Lisa L. Bechtel brought Nash home as a puppy, she hoped to give her son a loyal companion and a chance to learn responsibility. What she never imagined was that Nash would become the heart of a lifelong mission.
Nash grew into a dog who loved everyone she met. She welcomed every person and every animal with quiet patience, kindness, and unconditional love.
When Nash reached the end of her life, Lisa made one promise: “You will never be forgotten.”
That promise became N.A.S.H. — No Animal Shall Hurt — Ever.

Our Promise

We cannot save every animal. But every animal who enters our care will be treated with compassion, respect, and dignity.
We believe every dog deserves safety. Every dog deserves patience. Every dog deserves love. And every dog deserves the opportunity for a second chance.

The Dogs Who Changed Us

Every dog has a story. Some came frightened. Some came sick. Some came forgotten. Every one of them mattered.

Learning to Trust

Rescue begins with patience, safety, and the first moment a dog understands they are loved.

Part of the Pack

Some dogs need more than shelter. They need belonging.

Forever Families

The goal is always the same: safe homes, loving families, and lasting second chances.

Life at N.A.S.H.

Rescue does not happen only at shelters or adoption events.
Sometimes it looks like a kitchen full of dogs waiting for breakfast. Sometimes it is a couch where a frightened dog finally falls asleep. Sometimes it is simply making room for one more.
This is the heart of N.A.S.H.: ordinary moments of extraordinary compassion.

Our Services

Foster Support & Placement

Our foster network is the heart of our rescue. Foster homes provide animals with stability, socialization, and a safe environment while they prepare for adoption.

Animal Rescue & Emergency Intake

We rescue animals facing abandonment, unsafe environments, neglect, or immediate risk. Every intake focuses on safety, stabilization, and compassionate handling.

Medical Care & Rehabilitation

Many animals arrive needing urgent medical attention or long-term recovery support.

Adoption & Community Outreach

We carefully match animals with adopters while also educating the community on responsible pet ownership.
